Luke Hoelzeman, a local Catholic boy from Morrilton Arkansas, grew up in a family who are active parishioners of Sacred Heart. Luke grew up participating with his faith and cheering on the Hogs. During school, he began playing football and fell in love with it because of the community he found. It was through football that he also found a passion for education due to the critical influence and support of a teacher.
Upon graduating, Luke enrolled at the University of Central Arkansas to pursue that passion-education in hopes of becoming a teacher and a coach. While in college he sought out CCM Conway partially because of the community and maybe a little bit for his now-wife, Colleen. During his time at CCM Conway, Luke tried out different leadership roles with varying success until he found his stride with the Alpha Omega team, Men’s Ministry, and various retreat teams. Luke was a vital part of the community throughout his time in college and continued serving as a young alumnus.
After graduating in 2017, Luke pursued various positions ranging from forklift driver to retail to museum worker while taking additional courses towards his licensure. In 2020, he began teaching PE for St. John’s Catholic School in Russellville. During this time he began to feel a strong pull to serve God and students in more intentional and creative ways. As Luke discerned what this calling was he became an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, attended the Deaconate Interest meeting, and even tried his hand at being in the choir.
However, there was still a pull to do something more. During this time he was offered the new position of Assistant Campus Minister at CCM Conway. With memories of his time in leadership and the impact the community had on his spiritual and personal development, he was quick to respond with YES. Luke is excited to begin the new adventure of professional campus ministry and can’t wait to meet all the students this fall.
Beyond his new role at CCM Conway, Luke has a number of interests and hobbies. He can be found traveling with his wife on crazy adventures, playing board games/card games, cheering on the Hogs, enjoying nature and other outdoor activities, and recently expanding his culinary skills.
Luke can be found in the office Tuesdays-Fridays and at CCM Conway Mass on Sundays. You can reach him by email at [email protected].
